Do you wake up during the middle of the night thinking about everything you have to do or what you what forgot to finish?
Do you feel anxious or fearful that you won’t get it all done?
Are you trying to finish it all before someone finds out that you haven’t handled something yet?
Do you have this sense of dread hanging over you because you are sure that there is something that you’ve forgotten to do?
Are you exhausted just thinking about everything that needs to get done, so you don’t do anything!
If any of these scenarios sounds like you, you are not alone. It’s common that I speak with people who are feeling overwhelmed. Their jobs are more demanding than ever, their families seems to be getting busier and busier by the day, and not to mention, their extended families are wondering why they haven’t called! Whew! I feel their overwhelm just listening to it them describe it. Fortunately, there is something that you can do to begin to turn this around.
The first and most important thing that I advise my clients is to refuel themselves. They cannot give unless they are fueled up themselves. Even if it seems like they can’t fit another thing in, especially if it’s not already on the To-Do list, do it. I urge them to carve out a space of time to spend with and for themselves; something that they love to do. Not only will they enjoy doing something that they love, they often re-emerge with boundless energy and can handle and tackle everything on their To-Do List.
So remember, if you want to be able to give your all, give to yourself!

I hear people speak quite frequently about wanting to exercise but it is so far down on their priority list that it doesn’t seem to get done. When I ask about it, what gets revealed is that there is a level of guilt associated with “taking” time away from the family. There seems to be so many other items that are considered more important, that exercise takes a back seat. They want to dedicate any spare time to the family and life related tasks that pop up day-by-day.
Exercise however, doesn’t take away from doing the other items on the list, it actually helps them get done, in some cases, faster, easier, and more efficiently! It happens that way because exercise often brings extra energy and more vitality, making it possible to get more done every day! So by losing the guilt, taking care of yourself, you are able to not only do the other items on the to-do list, most people find that they’re able to do even more!
I work with people every day on creating work life balance and provide a foundation to have them catapult forward once they discover what’s getting in their way of creating it. For more information on how that’s possible,

Fortune Magazine interviewed Google CEO, Eric Schmidt regarding one of the best pieces of advice he has ever received. In the video he explains that he hired a coach to give him the perspective that he is unable to see for himself becasue as he explains, a coach allows him to see how other people view him.

A common question I receive from my clients is, “Why can’t I break through on this certain area?” It could be any area, like weight, developing an intimate relationship, making more money. For a lot of people there seems to be one area in particular that they just can’t seem to break through.
One of the first questions I ask is, “Why?” Why do you want to achieve this result? Sometimes we uncover that they picked that item as a goal because they thought that they “should” declare it as a goal rather than it being something that inspires them to take action. Or another common reason they declare it as a goal is because they believe that it will make them look good. In either case, it is not a matter of it being something that personally moves, touches, or inspires them to take and sustain action.
So, as you prepare your New Year’s Resolutions, as many of us do, review your goals and where you want to be in 2010. After you write them down, take a moment to check in with yourself to see if these are your goals or if someone else’s goals. I like to think of it like this….does this goal totally inspire you to JUMP out of bed at 5am every morning in anticipation of you being able to get started on your project? Do you have thoughts like….if I can BE this person, and achieve these results, I will be so excited and have a fulfilled life? If the answer is no to any of these questions, then chances are that you will not achieve these things, because they not truly what you want.
I encourage you to find what you want. It doesn’t have to be the ultimate, what do I want to do for the rest of my life question. It can be as simple as what do I want in this next moment? What do I want to create in this meeting for the next hour? What do I want to create as a result of the email that I send? Sometimes we have trouble determining the answer to that question. If that seems to be where you are stuck, begin by taking a look at what you don’t want. Make a list. After you have your list, ask yourself, if that’s what I don’t want, what DO I want? Make one DO for every don’t on your list. Be careful not to censor yourself with thoughts like, that’s too small, or that’s insignificant, or that’s trivial, why should I want those things? What will people think if I choose THAT? Also, do not censor yourself with thoughts of, that’s too big, I’ll NEVER achieve that. Or, I like the idea of that goal but I can’t see HOW I’ll ever do that. Let yourself think in terms of, what would I want if money was no object and I was guaranteed to have success? Give yourself permission to want things that perhaps you have not considered before, or haven’t considered in a while. Once you have items on your list that produce the experience of “YES” this is what I want, you’re ready to go! You’re ready to start taking steps to manifest what you truly matters to you in your life!

I was reading an article on MSN Careers, titled, Career Coaches: Are They Worth the Investment?
Of course, coaching is my passion, so I was compelled to read the article!
Although not everyone reported seeing a benefit from career coaching, a study found that:
Sixty-eight percent of individuals surveyed indicated that they had at least made back their initial investment in coaching in increased earnings from personal salaries or investments, or through increased savings through debt reduction, according to the coaching foundation study, which was conducted by Association Resource Centre and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Sixty-eight percent had made back AT LEAST their initial investment in coaching!
Wow!
Some of the potential benefits of engaging a career coach would be:
Gain clarity on what kind of a job you are looking to secure. Often coaches can assist you in discerning what type of job would best suit your personality and lifestyle.
A sounding board for new ideas. A coach is a great place to “try on” new ideas and explore new avenues that step beyond your current situation.
Provide Direction. During a career or job transition, people sometimes become overwhelmed or confused with all the different options that are available.
Acknowledgement and validation. A coach also provides great benefits in acknowledging what’s working along with what’s missing. Without the balance of what’s working along with what the client wants, often clients will get stuck in a cycle of getting more of what they don’t want.
Greater fulfillment. Because the client is often grounded and focused on exactly what they want, they often will report a greater level of satisfaction once they have landed a new job because the job is in alignment with what the client truly wants.

This has helped me diffuse stressful interactions with people I might otherwise categorize as difficult…”
